"Universe: Beyond the Millennium” narrated by John Hurt.
Humankind has
pondered since time immemorial whether or not we are alone in the Universe.
Only within the last century or so has the technology come into existence that
would allow for the serious scientific search for such extraterrestrials.
This documentary
details some of the discoveries that have been made thus far that might suggest
the possibility of extraterrestrial life, as well as the continuing efforts of
scientists to make new discoveries along those lines.

It also looks at the
legitimate scientific attempts to find evidence of intelligent life beyond the
Earth. Researchers and scientists involved in the Search for Extra-Terrestrial
Intelligence (SETI) have spent decades trying to determine how extraterrestrial
civilizations would attempt to contact us and if one does how we would try to
reply.

“Universe: Beyond the Millennium” originally premiered in 1999 under the title “Expanding Universe” and
presented an overview of our Universe as we understood at that time, and how
that knowledge may eventually evolve over the course of the next millennium.
Using CGI, the
series featured animated sequences that offer greater insight about the
glorious phenomena that have shaped the evolution of our cosmos.
